Overview

The Everest Base Camp Trekking is one of the most iconic and sought-after adventures in the world, drawing thousands of trekkers each year to the majestic heart of the Himalayas. Situated in the Khumbu region of Nepal, this trek takes you to the foot of the world’s highest peak—Mount Everest (8,848.86 meters). Along the journey, trekkers experience diverse landscapes, from lush rhododendron forests and alpine meadows to stark glacial moraines, all against the backdrop of towering peaks like Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku.

The trek typically starts with a thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a gradual ascent through Sherpa villages such as Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Gorak Shep. Highlights include visiting the historic Tengboche Monastery, witnessing breathtaking panoramas from Kala Patthar (5,545 meters), and finally reaching Everest Base Camp itself at 5,364 meters. With Friday Travel , you are assured an immersive and safe experience, guided by seasoned professionals who understand both the terrain and the spirit of the Himalayas.

Best Time for Everest Base Camp Trekking
Choosing the right time for your trek is crucial to making the most of the Everest Base Camp experience. The best time to trek to Everest Base Camp is during the pre-monsoon (spring) months of March to May and the post-monsoon (autumn) months of September to November. During these periods, the weather is typically clear and stable, offering excellent visibility of the snow-capped peaks and allowing for comfortable daytime trekking temperatures.

Spring brings the Himalayas to life with blooming rhododendrons and vibrant landscapes, while autumn offers crisp air and clear skies after the monsoon rains have settled the dust. These seasons also see bustling activity on the trails, as climbers head to Everest for their summit attempts. With Friday Travel, we help you select the optimal departure dates based on your preferences and ensure you have the best possible weather conditions for a memorable journey.

Everest Base Camp Trekking Difficulty
The Everest Base Camp Trek is a moderate to challenging adventure suitable for trekkers with a reasonable level of fitness and determination. While it doesn’t require technical climbing skills, the trek involves long days of walking—typically 5 to 8 hours per day—and reaches high altitudes over 5,000 meters. The primary challenges come from the elevation, thin air, and the potential risk of altitude sickness.

To tackle these challenges, Friday Travel builds in acclimatization days and follows a well-paced itinerary that allows your body to adjust gradually. Our experienced guides are trained in altitude-related health and safety and carry necessary first aid kits and oximeters to monitor your well-being. With proper preparation, guidance, and a positive mindset, trekkers from all age groups (typically 16 to 65 years) have successfully completed the journey with us.

Food and Accommodation
During the Everest Base Camp Trek, trekkers stay in traditional tea houses, which provide a warm, authentic Himalayan experience. These lodges are run by local Sherpa families and offer basic but comfortable rooms, usually with twin beds, shared bathrooms, and cozy dining areas heated by yak dung stoves. As you ascend higher, amenities become more basic, but Friday Travel ensures that all accommodations are vetted for cleanliness, safety, and hospitality.

Meals on the trail are nourishing and cater to a variety of dietary preferences. The typical menu includes Nepali dishes like dal bhat (rice and lentil soup), as well as international options such as pasta, noodles, eggs, and fried rice. Hot drinks like ginger tea and lemon honey tea help you stay warm and hydrated. We also accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets upon request. With us, your comfort and health are top priorities throughout the trek.

Trip Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Friday Travel will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in the bustling capital city. After checking in, you’ll have time to rest or explore nearby attractions. In the evening, you’ll meet your guide for a briefing about the trek and enjoy a welcome dinner hosted by the company.

The adventure begins with a scenic 30-minute flight to Lukla, offering stunning views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival, you’ll meet the trekking crew and begin the hike through charming Sherpa villages and lush forests along the Dudh Koshi River. After about 3–4 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at the riverside village of Phakding for an overnight stay.

Today's trek is a challenging but rewarding journey as you ascend to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Everest. You'll cross several suspension bridges and pass through pine forests and traditional settlements. After a steep climb up to Namche, you’ll reach the vibrant Sherpa town with panoramic views of Everest and surrounding peaks. Overnight at a guesthouse.

To help your body adjust to the altitude, you’ll spend the day in Namche exploring the area. Optional hikes include the Everest View Hotel for spectacular vistas or a visit to the Sherpa Museum and local market. This rest day is crucial for a safe and enjoyable trek ahead. Overnight in Namche.

After breakfast, the trail leads through rhododendron forests and past mani stones and chortens as you ascend to Tengboche. This small village is home to the famous Tengboche Monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region. The setting offers awe-inspiring views of Ama Dablam, Everest, and other Himalayan giants. Overnight in Tengboche.

Continuing through lush forests and gradually gaining altitude, you’ll descend to Debuche and cross the Imja Khola before climbing again to Pangboche. From here, the landscape becomes more barren as you trek toward the windswept village of Dingboche, where you’ll spend the night surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery.

Another acclimatization day allows for rest and altitude adjustment. You can take a short hike to Nagarjun Hill (5,100m) for stunning views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Island Peak. The extra day in Dingboche will help prepare your body for the higher elevations ahead. Overnight in Dingboche.

The trail continues through the high alpine region, passing memorials for climbers and providing spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. As you ascend gently but steadily, you’ll reach the small settlement of Lobuche, nestled among towering mountains. Overnight stay in Lobuche.

This is the most awaited day of the trek. You’ll start early to reach Gorak Shep and drop your bags before continuing to Everest Base Camp. After walking through the moraine and ice fields of the Khumbu Glacier, you’ll stand at the base of the world’s tallest peak. After soaking in the triumph, return to Gorak Shep for the night.

Start before dawn to hike up Kala Patthar, one of the best viewpoints in the region. From the top, enjoy a panoramic sunrise over Everest, Nuptse, and Pumori. After descending, begin the return journey by trekking down to Pheriche. The air gets thicker as you descend, making it a more comfortable hike. Overnight in Pheriche.

Retrace your steps down the Imja Valley through Pangboche and Tengboche, before climbing back up to Namche. The familiar trail feels easier going downhill, and you’ll enjoy the return to the lively town with warm hospitality. Overnight in Namche.

The final day of trekking leads you back through the beautiful forests and Sherpa villages you passed on the way up. After a long but satisfying walk, you’ll reach Lukla, where you’ll celebrate the completion of your incredible journey with the trekking team. Overnight in Lukla.

After breakfast, you’ll board a flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, Friday Travel will transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for rest, shopping, or exploring the cultural landmarks of the city. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner hosted by the company.
